Pharmaceutical interventions for the promotion of rational use of medicines in hospitals: a review
Abstract
Clinical pharmacy practice is extremely important in hospitals, especially due to the high demand for medical prescription drugs in this setting. In this way, pharmaceutical interventions (PI) can effectively contribute to optimizing pharmacotherapy and for the rational use of medicines (RUM). This work aimed to analyze pharmaceutical interventions in Brazilian hospitals through an integrative review study. Searches were performed in Google Scholar from September to October 2021. Twenty-seven articles were included. The most frequent FI was dose adjustment; change of the administration routes; drug replacement; drug schedule changes; management of drug interactions; adjustment in drug preparation technique. We found the acceptability of the FI higher than 70% in more than 60% of the reviewed studies. Our results show the importance of the clinical pharmacist actively included in the multidisciplinary team in healthcare. For this, professional updating is needed to obtain results that contribute to pharmacotherapy in hospitals.
