Abstract

A atenção farmacêutica tem como finalidade reduzir os custos com assistência médica e garantir uma maior segurança aos usuários de medicamentos. É recomendada pela OMS (Organização Mundial da Saúde) e estimulada por governos de países desenvolvidos (OMS, 1993). É considerada ainda como indispensável na relação paciente‑medicamento(STORPIRTIS, 1999). Na ausência de uma atenção farmacêutica qualificada, o processo de cura ou manutenção da saúde pode ser comprometido, inclusive podendo levar ao agravamento do quadro clínico (AFONSO & PUERTA, 1991), gerando, assim, transtornos para o paciente e prejuízos para os sistemas público e privado de saúde e até mesmo em casos mais complicados o paciente chegar a óbito (FREITAS etal; 2005).
