O conhecimento científico surgiu da necessidade do ser humano se relacionar mais intimamente com o meio onde vive e a querer conhecer melhor o funcionamento das coisas em seu redor. Esse interesse fez com
que o homem pudesse entender os fenômenos naturais, a constituição e o funcionamento dos organismos vivos, a arquitetura dos materiais inertes, os fenômenos físicos e químicos do meio ambiente, entre outros, e começasse a interferir na maioria dos processos que o rodeavam.
