Abstract

AMERICAN COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS-AMERICAN SOCIETY OF INTERNAL MEDICINE[Annals of Internal Medicine, volume 136: 79-85, number 1, January 2002]

Este estudo analisa a abrangência crescente da prática farmacêutica, nos Estados Unidos (EUA). Apresenta informação básica sobre a profissão farmacêutica e algumas orientações de como os médicos podem trabalhar com os farmacêuticos, para melhorar a qualidade de saúde e a segurança dos pacientes. A pesquisa demonstra a necessidade de fazer mais investigação sobre os efeitos da automatização farmacêutica e o movimento para se obter o grau de Doutor em Farmácia na pratica farmacêutica. As outras posições incluem o apoio para a educação do paciente, visitas hospitalares, oposição aos privilégios de prescrição e iniciativas de terapêuticas farmacológicas por farmacêuticos independentes, a função do farmacêutico como imunizador (de acordo com as leis estaduais) e o apoio ao Colégio Americano de Médicos - Sociedade Americana de Medicina Interna, em relação à substituição terapêutica, de 1990.
