Abstract

As reações adversas a medicamentos (RAMs) constituem um problema importante na prática do profissional da área da saúde. Sabe-se que essas reações são causas significativas de hospitalização, aumento do tempo de permanência hospitalar e até mesmo de óbito (Einarson, 1993). Estima-se que a prevalência das RAMs seja na ordem de 1,5 a 15% e que as reações adversas graves ou fatais variem de 0,4 a 2% (Salvia et al., 1999; VENULET & HAM, 1996). Nos Estados Unidos, por exemplo, as RAMs foram responsáveis por mais de 100.000 óbitos, em 1994, e, atualmente, são responsáveis por 5% de todas as admissões hospitalares (PIRMOHAMED & PARK, 2001).
