Abstract

Inadequate drug disposal tends to have a negative impact from the point of view of both public health and environmental preservation. Thus, this study analysed a situational diagnosis of the processes of collection and disposal of medicines in primary care in the municipality in Currais Novos, RN, Brazil. A direct observation of the processes of collection and disposal of medicines in the municipality was carried out, considering the human, physical, economic and logistical resources, coupled with the investigation of the relevant Brazilian regulation. Then, the data were tabulated and analyzed using Microsoft Office Excel. 12 indicators were analyzed, 10 (83%) non-compliant and 2 (17%) complying with current legislation, which were non-occurrence of drugs with expired date on the shelves of places destined for their storage in the municipality and products received are checked for quantity, validity and quality. This diagnosis will serve as a subsidy for intervention in the weaknesses detected in this study, in order to frame the processes of
collection and disposal of medications in accordance with current legislation.
