Objective: To evaluate the use of the educational pamphlets as a tool to enable valid parameters of blood pressure (BP) measurements obtained by Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM). Methods: An open intervention study conducted in public and private hospitals in Maceió-AL, from November 2021 to June 2022. Patients with hypertension on drug treatment were included. All patients underwent ABPM examination; one group received the laboratory’s conventional guidance, while the other group received a customized pamphlet with images and written instructions. Patients were assessed regarding pharmacological treatment, BP, and anthropometric data. The statistical significance level adopted was p < 0.05. Results: The study comprised 123 participants, of which 67.5% were female and the average age was 58.47 ± 11.8
years. The BP control rate in the sample was 42.3%. About 71 patients in the total sample demonstrated abnormal ABPM results. ABPM measurements, whether total and/or awake period, were significantly higher in the group where the pamphlet was applied. All with p < 0.05. Conclusion: The use of the pamphlets favoured a higher number of valid readings, thus avoiding any repetition of the exam, with potential for use in clinical practice.
