Abstract

Medicines represent solve most of the health problems. Preservation of its quality should be guaranteed from manufacturing to dispensing to the patient. In this sense, the present study aims to analyze the process of drug storage in the Pharmaceutical Supply Center at Currais Novos County, RN, Brazil, through a cross-sectional, descriptive and exploratory study, developed in May 2018. Data collection was performed through the application of an inspection form, elaborated based on Good Practices for Drug Storage and storage requirements recommended by RDC nº 44/09, Anvisa. Among the 16 evaluated items, 44% presented non-compliance. Items such as lack of standard operating procedures, inadequate lighting  and electrical installations, and temperature and humidity monitoring make up the items for non-compliance. The storage system of the Pharmaceutical Supply Center at Currais Novos County, the only responsible for storing and dispensing medicines of the primary component of pharmaceutical care for the population of all  neighborhoods, needs to be optimized in several points for strengthening the pharmaceutical care cycle. The pharmacist is an essential professional to lead this process in order to offer more efficient and safer dispensation
for the patient who needs access to the medication.
