According to the Brazilian Consensus of pharmaceutical care, pharmaceutical care is a set of actions developed by the pharmacist, and other health professionals, focused on the promotion, protection and recovery of health, both individually and collectively. In this context, the professional practice of pharmaceutical services ermeates the activities involved in the cycle of pharmaceutical care, aiming at continuous supply of quality medicines to patients. This study aimed to assess the reality of pharmaceutical care in Santa Maria through the identification of actors responsible for medicines in Basic Health Units (BHU) namely health professionals that has responsibility for actions related to the drug in these locations. It was evident the importance of the pharmacist for the qualification of the activities involved with the cycle of pharmaceutical care as well as to control and evaluation. The inclusion of pharmacists in health care teams is still a challenge to be searched and depends on the awareness of managers about the importance of this work for improving medication management and quality of life of patients.Downloads
