Abstract

Atualmente, o mercado farmacêutico dispõe de modernas drogas, como a cimetidina e a ranitidina, para o tratamento de úlcera péptica. Esta enfermidade se apresenta como uma área de escoriação da mucosa, desenvolvida, de maneira aguda, sendo mais frequentemente localizada no estômago, mas podendo ocorrer no duodeno. A causa habitual da ulceração péptica é um desequilíbrio entre a velocidade de secreção do suco gástrico e o grau de proteção oferecido pela barreira da mucosa gastroduodenal, bem como da neutralização do ácido gástrico pelos sucos duodenais. (GUYTON, 1992; KOROLKOVAS, 1998; ROBBINS & COTRAN, 1983).

De forma obscura, a úlcera péptica teve sua incidência diminuída, nas últimas décadas. Entretanto, simultaneamente a este fato, a sintomatologia resultante do quadro ulcerativo foi intensificada, provavelmente em decorrência de uma maior exposição a fatores que influenciam sua etiologia, tais como idade, sexo, grupo sanguíneo, localização geográfica, conflitos emocionais e competitivos, estresse, menopausa (para pacientes femininas), uso do tabaco, entre outros. (ROBBINS & COTRAN, 1983).
