Abstract

O Manual de Prevenção ao Uso Indevido de Drogas da Secretaria Nacional Antidrogas denomina psicotrópicos como sendo substâncias que atuam sobre o cérebro, modificando o seu funcionamento, podendo provocar alterações no humor, nas percepções, no comportamento e nos estados da consciência ou da mente.

A Portaria 344 dispõe dos medicamentos controlados os quais têm uma variedade de indicações. Entre eles, têm-se os benzodiazepínicos, que, segundo Silva, 1994, constituem o grupo de maior relevância e de maior uso prático dos hipnóticos, graças às suas quatro atividades fundamentais: ansiolítica, hipnótica, anticonvulsivante e relaxante muscular.
